Here’s How To Grow Hair Faster
Beta Carotene: It’s a little known fact that in order for hair to grow properly, and at a good rate, one needs to have enough beta carotene in their diet. That’s because Beta carotene converts into vitamin A, a vitamin that is essential for a number of things, hair growth included.
You’ll find Mother Nature stocked yellow and green vegetables and fruits with beta carotene galore. Which is why you might want to find plenty of them on your plate as well, don’t you think?
Lean Protein: Hair is made of protein so if you do not have enough of it in your body, yours is not going to grow well. Plus what does grow may be weak and prone to breakage.
So you need to be sure you are consuming enough protein.
And make that lean please. The lean variety can be found in a number of different foods including beans, eggs, low fat yogurt, chicken and fish.
Vitamins: While on the topic of diet, there are certain vitamins that help promote hair growth including Vitamin B-Complex, Vitamin B-6, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E. Oh and biotin, a water soluble B-vitamin, also plays a role in healthy hair development.
Now you can pick up specific vitamin formulations at your local pharmacies made specifically for hair growth.
And while some may mention using prenatal vitamins those aren’t necessarily recommended. (Yeah pregnant woman have great looking hair and all but it’s more due to hormones rather than the vitamins they are taking. So taking these vits is NOT how to stimulate hair growth.)
Still healthy long hair doesn’t usually come from a bottle of pills or products that promise to speed up hair growth.
Tip: Be sure to speak with your doctor before you begin taking any vitamins, as you want to make sure they are okay to take with any medications you have been prescribed.
Live Healthy: Yeah I know you know that there are many things you can do for your body that can help your hair. This includes getting enough sleep, avoiding greasy, fattening foods, and leading as stress free a life as you can. You may not be perfect at any of those, but would it kill you to try?
Stay Hydrated: Drink lots of water. Yes, water is best. No sugar, chemicals or empty calories please.
Avoid Bad Habits: Not to sound like your mom, but another helpful tip for better hair health is to stop smoking cigarettes and reduce your alcohol intake. Both of these bad habits weaken your entire system not to mention making hair brittle, which in turn, makes it harder to grow longer because it breaks off so much.
Take Your Medicine But…: Believe it or not, certain medications can prevent hair from growing. Though there are meds you may have to take for your health, consult with your doctor to see if there is an alternative that won’t interfere with your hair.
With that said let me hasten to add, never stop taking a prescribed medication without the permission of your doctor. Doing so for the sake of your hair is simply not smart, right?
Satin Pillow Case: Better for your mane than cotton. This will cut down on breakage as you toss and turn at night.
Turn Down the Heat: Obviously if you want your hair to grow, faster or otherwise, trust me hot styling tools are not how to do it.
In other words you cannot blow dry it all the time or use a straightener on it all the time or use a curling iron on it all the time if you expect to grow it out. (And for sure you NEVER want to touch your locks with styling heat without first applying some kind of heat protectant.)
Any hot styling tools can eventually damage your hair and inhibit it from “growing” by actually making your precious strands fall out or break off.
You don’t have to swear off the heat, but you do want to try to keep it to a minimum. A bare minimum. If you’re serious about growing out your hair.
Tip: Given the convenience of these tools use them wisely if you must use them at all. For example as much as possible avoid blow drying continuously from wet to dry. Instead try drying with warm air for 30 seconds and then cool air for 30 seconds so as to avoid overheating your long(er) and hopefully lengthening locks.
Scalp Stimulation: Your scalp needs stimulation in order for your hair to grow. This increases the blood flow to the follicles and you don’t want them to be follically challenged.
You can stimulate hair growth by massaging your scalp at least once a week.
Either you can massage your own scalp in the shower or have someone else do it for you. But the better circulation that results may well mean faster hair growth.
Gentle Shampoo and Conditioner: Use a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner – or if you hair is dry use a moisturizing shampoo.
Very important. You want clean hair not necessarily lots of suds. Especially when the chemicals needed for lather production aren’t exactly great for your tresses’ well being.
Plus washing less often doesn’t wash the oils you hair needs down the drain.
Avoid Regular Trims: Not sure who thought it helps hair to grow faster if you trim it more often, but that’s just crazy talk. Yes you do want to have a cleanup cut to clean up past sins. You know, to get rid of damaged, dry, brittle hair and any splits that result from abuse of hot styling tools, but seriously? Regular trims?
So please stop with the trimming.
You really don’t want to get your tresses trimmed that often – depending on the health of your hair of course.
But too much trimming translates into hair that never grows or in fact gets shorter.
Besides, if you have layers you’ve got more latitude when it comes to trims. In other words you can go longer between trims because your hair will tend to grow unevenly. So with ample layers cut in for movement and body who can tell?
Wet Hair? Beware: This is when you hair is most vulnerable. So no brushing. This will stretch your delicate strands enough and to cause them to snap off. A wide tooth comb is the only thing that should touch wet hair if you want it to remain healthy and growing. One that will glide through your hair starting from the bottom and working your way up.
Microfiber: No vigorous rubbing your mane dry in the terry cloth towel. A micro fiber towel is best and best used to pat/squeeze your hair damp.
Deep Condition: The shaft of your hair needs protection if you want it to grow. To get this, you need to continually use deep conditioning and hot oil treatments on your hair. You cannot just do this one time, however; it needs to be done on a regular basis. And the deep conditioner should be loaded with protein.
Just Say No to Color: Saved what I feel is the hardest one for last given how many of us color our hair. But the chemicals involved, especially if doing it at home, likely don’t do your hair any favors – even if you can color your hair like a pro. So if you are serious about having longer hair, if you must color, try to color the new growth only. And then pamper the rest with appropriate shampoos and conditioners formulated for color treated hair.
Okay so how’d you do?
