Bangs. They can be both blatantly bold and definitely flattering at the same time. Sultry and seductive too. That’s why we love them.
Besides the length of the hottest bangs is constantly changing.
It’s something you can count on to not stand still.
At one point the idea is for them to playfully graze your lashes.
Then the ones spotted on celebs take a nose dive with some strands even reaching down to the lips.
The super trendy may even cover an eye with them, although how they see to drive is beyond me.
But the idea is they are in a constant state of flux.
Each change spotted in the fashion mags brings with it more or less versatility. While styling accessories like a cute headband, barrette or a bit of gel can instantly leave you with a fresh look to face the world with.
Yet why do we favor hairstyles with bangs?
Simple.
Some draw attention to your eyes.
Others add a sense of carefree flirtiness to your look.
They make a great camouflage for a high forehead.
Overall they can soften most any look.
Plus they’re not forever. You can easily grow your bangs out again making use of barrettes, headbands or your famed bobby pin collection to stuff them to the side and keep them there out of sight.
But if you’re not ready to abandon them completely you may have grown tired of them. It happens. Know what I mean? The problem with bangs is they can get kinda boring what with the same old same old look day after day. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
That’s why I’ve put together this list of styling tricks. Turns out there are many things you can do to spice things up and change your look just a little.
Blunt Bang Make Over
Are you a lover of dramatic blunt bangs? You know the ones that just graze your eyebrows? Hot, right? Still, girls with bangs find that even these can get tedious at times. For those days that you aren’t your most creative here are three or four super simple ways to change things up.
Remember this. Style bangs dry. The rule being the wetter they are when you start to style them the harder they will be to work with.
GO CLASSIC: This is the most obvious styling option. It’s often seen with bobbed hairstyles. With this method, simply pull half of them back and clip them out of the way. Use a flat iron to slightly bend the lower layer towards your face. Release the rest and do the same. Straightening them like this will tend to make them look longer. Brush and shape them to perfection with a round brush while the hair is still warm. The result is a classically clean look with every hair in place that let’s your bangs make a real statement. Especially if your color your hair with highlights.
If you prefer not to use a hot iron, pull out your little round brush and flip on your blow dryer. There is little more to this than to grab your fringe with the brush, roll them under and blow dry them. Just apply gentle tension while aiming the dryer at them. Oh and take care to aim your hairdryer straight down to keep them from frizzing up. Pretty simple actually. They’ll still be straight but with a hint of an arch and a touch more volume. And unlike with the flat iron they won’t be too flat or too perfect.
FRENCH BRAIDED: Grab your bang. Divide the hair into three sections and braid away from your face towards the side. Sure this is a basic styling move. But it can drastically change how your hair looks without a lot of effort. Secure to the side with a bobby pin and cover with more hair.
SIDE SWEPT SORTA: Second pull them back and part along a diagonal line with more of your bangs headed in one direction. Use your flat iron to direct them to that side. Adding a part changes your look. You can change it further by parting them from side to side. People will think there’s something different about you. They just won’t be able to put their finger on it. Perfectly unpredictable.
Again you can achieve much the same look using your small round brush and blow dryer. Twist the hair away from your face and to the side while hitting it with hot air. Turn off the dryer and let the hair cool down while on the brush. This simple styling will help hold it place to the side. Easy way to make your hair look very different without sacrificing your bangs.
Now if you are stuck with fly away baby hairs galore or what-naught apply a teeny tiny dab of shine enhancer just to the ends. This should help restore order and keep them in place.
SIDE TWIST: Much like braiding only easier, just twist away from your face incorporating more hair as you go. Same as before bobby pin the end securely into your hair. Another cute and simple variation that works even if you have long layers with bangs.
SPLIT DOWN THE MIDDLE: Part your bangs in the middle. Take some hair from one side, twist or braid it and pull it across your split bangs and use bobby pins to clip to the side. Hide that with your hair on that side.
BRUSH BACK: This involves nothing more than pulling the hair off your face and securing your bangs in place with a bobby pin. You want a bit of a bump up front. This is a way to accentuate your lashes and your eyes as well as bring a new perspective to your hair. It’s a great summer time look too. Especially for those steamy days when hair on your face and humidity aren’t doing your mood any favors.
Another way to get this look is to lift and tease your bangs down and then brush back. Spritz the section with hair spray, gently tease. You’ll have maybe four or five sections of hair you’ll do this too. Then comb back smoothing it out, push the hair forward just a bit and then pin the end in place with a bobby pin or two. Give this a final shot of hair spray to help hold the look. Your blunt bangs have disappeared and in their place you are left with a cute bump or pouff. Which can be a great trick for fine hair which often lies flat and limp.
