There are curly hair diffusers and then there are curly hair diffusers.
Apparently the Black Orchid diffuser from Xtava is in a class by itself.
For one, many report it slashes drying time by as much half or two thirds. That may be because the size and depth of the bowl allows you to gently scoop up lots of curls at a time. That and the long fingers help you get deeper heat and air flow penetration.
Others have noted it dries the roots really well. Which can help you get much more lift and curl with much less frizz.
Then there’s all the body and volume you end up with.
But before you rush out and pick one up you need to understand there’s a catch.
That would be this coveted diffuser is NOT universal.
That’s right, it’s far from a one size fits all application.
Fact is it only fits a select few blow dryers that don’t have Xtava emblazoned on their nozzle.
Still could this be the secret weapon for frizz free, defined, glam curls you’ve been looking for but couldn’t find? Those seeking masses and masses of beautiful curls will want to keep reading for the answer. Because we cover:

Here’s some of pros and cons most often mentioned by reviewers.
Pros and Cons
PROS
- Bowl depth allows you to dry more hair at a time for (much) faster drying times
- Has long fingers to allow heat and air flow to circulate deep into your curls
- Heavy duty construction
- Best for those with long curls
CONS
- It only fits a handful of hair dryers
- It’s huge and some would say heavy so not easy to handle
- Being super-sized makes it less than ideal for travel
- Those with shorter hair might find it a bit daunting to use
Since the biggest drawback is it only fits a handful of hair dryers this might be a good time to reveal those dryers others swear it does fit.
List of Xtava Black Orchid Diffuser Compatible Dryers
Yeah, we couldn’t help but notice that the most common question asked about this diffuser is “does this fit (insert name of hair dryer here)?”.
So odds are it is NOT going to fit the dryer currently residing in your bathroom. Or any of them if you have a collection. Sorry.
Here’s the admittedly short list of dryers this diffuser is supposed to fit. They’re listed in alphabetical order by brand to make it easy to check if yours works.
HINT: The one thing these seem to share is the nozzle is slim or narrows considerably.
It attaches to some with the inner ring in place. With others you’ll have to pop it out.
Also keep in mind the design of hair dryers can change when newer models come out. What works with the Black Orchid yesterday may not work with the model that comes out tomorrow.
How Do You Install A Black Orchid Diffuser?
There’s a trick.
When it comes to how to attach your black orchid diffuser you need to both push and twist it onto the nozzle of your hair dryer.
Too many forget the twisting part. But for many that’s the key.
Remember to twist and BOOM it squeezes right on!
Black Orchid Diffuser Hacks
Given where this attachment rates on the lust for scale there are hacks to try to make it work with your current dryer. Not surprising given this game changer fits so few models, right?
If you have your heart set on this diffuser obviously your easiest move is to get an Xtava blow dryer.
There. Problem solved.
But what if you love, love, love the hair dryer you’ve been using and the Orchid doesn’t fit?
Well there are some things to try.
Five to be exactly.
Can’t guarantee any will work.
But can’t hurt to try, right?
And when you’re finished with these you’ll want to check out our other article that has even more diffuser tips and tricks.
Most common one suggested is to pop out the inner ring on the diffuser.
This next idea requires a little plumbing know-how. (very little)
You’ll need a coupler plumbers use. Don’t worry they come in a wide variety of sizes so this should totally work.
A simple search on Home Depot’s site for “plumbing flexible couplers” turned up a page of options in all sizes.
The thing I like about Home Depot is their site tells you exactly where to find it in the store. A real time saver. Unless you like wandering around the store like lost tourist.
It goes without saying you’ll want to measure the your dryer’s nozzle diameter so you get the right size. The end measuring an inch and half should be good for the diffuser.
If need be just pack up your dryer and the diffuser and schlep them to the aisle in Home Depot so you get the right one. Someone there may even be helpful.
The next idea is to use ordinary duct tape (Gorilla brand would be my recommendation) to hold it on. It’s an okay hack if you don’t remove it.
Some wrap Duck Brand 442055 Wrap-Fix Repair Tape (Amazon link) around end of the barrel of the dryer if it’s too small. Doing so until the fit is nice and snug.
This self-fusing silicon tape is heat resistant up to 500 degrees F.
Or you could use thick rubber bands like those that hold broccoli stalks together. These work to bulk the end of your dryer too for a secure fit.
Tip: Leaving a little bit sticking out helps this hack work better.
Finally there’s the Snozzlepro adapter.
Simply fit your dryer’s nozzle with a SnozzlePro. Then it’s quite likely your massive Xtava Black Orchid diffuser will fit just about any hairdryer. That adapter fits dryers with nozzle diameters from an inch and a half to two and a quarter.
How Big Is The Black Orchid Diffuser?
Prepare to be stunned by the size.
Even if you’ve done your homework hearing it’s huge and seeing how huge it is can be shocking as this video shows.
I know when she held the two diffusers side by side the difference was astounding.
Color me unexpectedly impressed!
Plus she looks at diffusers in a way that I hadn’t thought of. Analyzing how to determine the effectiveness of any diffuser in a way you’re not going to want to miss.
Clearly smart design matters. Especially if the idea with any diffuser is to get gentle, warm air flow yet not disrupt your curl pattern.
This comparison might well explain all the rave reviews. As this video shows how the Black Orchid has a superior design. One that encourages air flow from many directions not just from the base. Leaving you with better defined, bouncier, shinier curls that ever before.

Hi Tori, it’s Val, the inventor of SnozzlePro here! Thanks so much for including SnozzlePro as a “hack” for the Xtava Black Orchid diffuser — you absolutely made my day! I originally invented the SnozzlePro as a way to keep my concentrator nozzle attached to my hair dryer during blowouts. (Concentrators are notorious for pop-offs!) Then, later on, when I embraced my curly hair, I discovered that SnozzlePro worked just as well with diffusers like the Xtava Black Orchid. Hallelujah!

Hi there! Thank you for the article. Just so you know, the diffuser doesn’t fit the Remington rose Pearl, it’s too big ? thought you might want to amend your list.
Thanks! You just did amend the list. 🙂
