Getting A Grip On a Popular But Weird Looking Hair Tie

Hair ties leaving annoying crease marks on your hair?

Does it take two or three to hold any type of updo securely in place, using the word “securely” loosely?

Does removing your current favorite elastic hurt or snag your locks when taking it out?

Not to mention the hassle of having your messy buns or top knots wobble, droop, or fall apart entirely and at the worst possible moment.

invisibobble hairstyles

Now for some, using a what looks like an old timey phone cord for a hair tie is old news. Asians have apparently had this tool available to them seemingly forever. Can’t say. I wasn’t there.

But for others discovering this is like a Christmas miracle.

At last! Real style holding power.

All the more exciting for those trying to pull off a messy bun for curly hair that’s thick and unruly!

And that style holding power is why we’re taking a closer look at Invisibobbles.

One Invisibobble Skeptic’s Experience Caught On Tape

Guess what? She clearly didn’t want to love this at first.

But did she come around or not?

Well if I revealed that here that would spoil the surprise, now wouldn’t it?

11 Invisibobbles Thinkabouts

No product, even lesser known ones like this, is perfect.

Some swear these Invisibobbles are like the Goldilocks of hair ties – not too tight, not too loose, but just right.

Others not so much.

So here are eight reasons why this might be a “must have” accessory. Followed by three reasons why you may not be a fan.

Why You Want to Use These Reason #1: Extra Strong Hold

Let’s start with this accessory’s strong suit. Hold-ability.

Important since tons of hair can be a big challenge for wimpy ordinary elastics.

Same for fine slippery strands.

So if you have long or other worldly thick heavy strands this may be the solution you’ve been looking for but couldn’t find for keeping any kind of updo in place.

Simply wrap this muscular tie (I’m speaking of the power version) around your hair two or three times, twisting it each time for super strong hold.

High pony tails – no problem.

Hair in a bun – next to zero slippage.

Your style stays where you put it. Period.

All this make this spiral wonder far and away superior to your traditional hair bands.

Tip: This is certainly the time to leave a bit of hair out of your pony tail so you can wrap the base with and hide the funky invisibobble safely out of sight.

Why You Want to Use These Reason #2: Less Damage

If you wear your hair up or if a pony tail is your go to then you may be experiencing breakage at the point of contact with your hair ties. Not good.

Given its design the smooth plastic Invisibbole puts uneven pressure around the base of your ponytail or updo. This is supposed to spare your strands from dents or breakage.

Why You Want to Use These Reason #3: Great Hold For Workouts

Do you have a high impact workout? You may find this stands up to all the jumping around, running, workout machine you can throw at it.

Most any buns, top knots, or pony tails will not budge but stay firmly in place during your time at the gym and won’t that be nice for a change?

Why You Want to Use These Reason #4: Durable And Long Lasting

Who hasn’t had an ordinary elastic snap on them? Happens all the time, right?

These are definitely more durable. Definitely more sturdy. In fact with these spiral shaped ties, you’re more likely to lose one before it breaks on you.

Can traditional ties say that?

Why You Want to Use These Reason #5: Headache Free Pony tails

For some pulling their hair back into a tight pony tail or updo can cause headaches. That makes wearing hair up no fun.

This hair ring minimizes tension on your strands. No too tight headache for you.

Why You Want to Use These Reason #6: Easy To Remove

Painless. Tangle free. Unlike most regular hair bands this is friction free. So most find this one just slips out of their hair without ripping out strands with it.

Why You Want to Use These Reason #7: Creaseless

I had no idea crease marks or hair tie kinks were such an issue.

If they are in your world this may be your answer. Because these by design are less apt to leave a dent in your hair.

Yeah, less chance of any crease marks making this a good choice, if for instance, you wear your curls up in like a pineapple all night.

Why You Want to Use These Reason #8: Easily Shrink Back If Stretched Out

You won’t help but notice these do stretch out with usage.

But no worries.

There are two ways to restore these to their tight original size. Or close to it anyway.

To shrink a stretched out Invisibobble and save it from a premature death give it a quick blast with your blow dryer.

Either that or drop in hot tap water for a few minutes and it will contract almost by magic right in front of your eyes.

Making it both fun and functional.

But naturally, as you’d expect, all is not rainbows and unicorns.

Why You Will NOT Want to Use These Reason #1: May Not Be As Dentless As Claimed

When it comes to the second huge selling point that it won’t dent, kink or crease your hair reviews are somewhat mixed.

Still user experience is a tricky thing. For every person who reported their hair showed signs of creases despite what the manufacturer promises, many others said they were pleasantly surprised that they have no such marks.

Obviously your mileage may vary. But if the only reason for trying these is a crease free hair when removed you at least need to be aware that may not be the case for everyone.

Why You Will NOT Want to Use These Reason #2: Somewhat Pricey

The other often mentioned mark against them is the price.

Depending, it may run you a bit over $2.50 a tie which admittedly is much more than normal hair elastics. But rumor has it they can be had at discount stores like the Dollar Tree for much less. Dunno. I haven’t looked.

Although if $8 for three is gonna stand between you and your Starbucks addiction maybe you need to cut back on the caffeine. Just saying.

Of course the offset to higher price is durability. Compared to normal hair ties these will last ages longer – that is unless you lose them.

Why You Will NOT Want to Use These Reason #3: Can Be Challenging to Remove For Some

Yeah removal made both lists because there’s easy to remove and then there’s easy to remove.

But think about it. With strong grip might come somewhat tricky removal. You may find all that hold means you’ll have to gently unwind each loop to avoid yanking out your hair.

All in all, while not a miracle necessarily, Invisibobbles are still a worthy addition to your hair accessory collection, no?

Three Variations: When To Use Each

  • 3 sizes
  • Original
  • Power – best for thicker or longer hair or those with an active sports life
  • Nano – good for kids, tying off braids or smaller sections of hair
  • Slim just joined the product lineup. They have fewer spirals than the original.

While it comes in three sizes, or is it strengths?, for anyone with anything approaching thick or long hair I’d recommend skipping the nano and original and going straight to the super strong power version for superior grip.
